The Federation's Impact > Israel & The World > Ethiopia
Our Work in Ethiopia

Over the past 20 years, beginning with Operations Moses in 1984 and Solomon in 1991, The Jewish Federation, through its beneficiary agencies, has aided in the effort to bring thousands of Ethiopian Jews home to the State of Israel. Today, through Operation Promise, plans are in place to bring the remaining Ethiopian Jews to Israel.

But the challenge doesn’t stop there. Once these new immigrants arrive on Israeli soil, they must be fully integrated and absorbed into Israeli society. Through Federation support, absorption centers and other educational programs are maintained. Immigrants receive essential Hebrew language classes, vocational training, as well as classes for adults designed to introduce them to modern society.

Operation Promise
Operation Promise, an initiative of the Jewish Federations of North America, will help bring the remaining Ethiopian Jews to Israel and help mainstream the entire Ethiopian-Israeli community. Read more.

Parents and Children Together (PACT)
One way our Federation helps new Ethiopian immigrants in the absorption process is through the Parents and Children Together (PACT) program, which we fund in Beit Shemesh, Israel. Read more.
