South Bay Council Federation Liaisons Harry was born in Panama and he grew up in Chicago, as did Loni. They met at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where Loni received her B.S. in Education and Harry received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering. They then moved to Boston where they were both active in their synagogues (Beth Israel in Malden and Temple Emeth in Brookline), as well as the Jewish Federation and American Jewish Congress.
They moved to Palos Verdes in 1973, and have enjoyed being active members of Congregation Ner Tamid. Loni has been a board member and Vice Presidents of Education and Membership, and has been on the board of Sisterhood. She is a life member of Hadassah and has been active in the Federation. Harry has also been a board member of Ner Tamid and has served as Treasurer, Vice President of Ways and Means, Executive Vice President, and served two years as President of the congregation. Harry is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was a member of the Southern California Association of Professional Representatives. He has also been a member of the American Physical Society, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi and the Air Force Association. Harry is currently retired from the Boeing Company, where he was Manager of Advanced Concepts and Technology for Integrated Defense Systems. Loni is retired after a long career as a teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was a chapter chair for United Teachers of Los Angeles. She currently volunteers at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Currently, Harry serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. He is the ESOP Trustee for Studio Photo Imaging, a small business supporting the movie and entertainment industry. Loni and Harry served as co-chairs in 2006 and 2007 for Super Sunday in the South Bay. They are both now on the board of the American Technion Society (Western Region) and are active in AIPAC. Harry and Elona have just celebrated 45 years of marriage and take great pride in their children Pamela and Stephen Hendry, Gary and Carolynne Dyner and Deborah and David Harris, as well as their grandchildren Erica, Sarah, Quinn, Noah, Adam and Sadie. |
