Israel & the World
As part of its commitment to Jewish people throughout the world, The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, in partnership with the North American federation movement, the Jewish Agency for Israel, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the people of Israel, has developed special relationships with Jewish communities worldwide. These relationships are cultivated through special projects, exchanges and missions bring Jewish Angelenos together with Jews in communities throughout the world, creating a global Jewish safety net and furthering our community's commitment to Jewish peoplehood and tikkun olam.
Our Work in Israel
Through a multi-dimensional approach to outreach and programming, The Jewish Federation works to strengthen the connection between Israel and the Los Angeles Jewish community. Federation initiatives in the social, educational, economic and political arenas promote a shared Jewish identity among Israelis and Angelenos and create lasting, large-scale change in both Israel and Los Angeles.

Our Work in the Former Soviet Union
A great many Jews trace their roots to the thriving shtetls of the "old country," to the lands of Jewish communal heritage in the areas around Poland and Russia. Beginning with the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, however, Jewish communal life in Central and Eastern Europe virtually faded from existence for half a century. In the last 15 years, with the help of Federation-supported partnerships and initiatives, Jewish communal life in these areas has begun to rise from the ashes
