The Jewish Federation, working with the Sacta-Rashi Foundation and the Ministry of Education in Israel, has developed an after-school program at four Tel Aviv schools, called Keep OUr Kids Safe.
The program provides children in many of Israel’s disadvantaged communities a safe environment where they can participate in enrichment activities and receive a nutritious hot meal. For many of the children involved, this is their main meal of the day. As part of the program, the students, most of whom would be left to their own devices at home or on the streets, receive tutoring in subjects including Hebrew, Math and English. They also participate in cultural and social enrichment activities. One of the schools in which the program has been implemented is the Rogozin School in Tel Aviv. Located in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods, the student body includes many children of immigrant workers, and is among the most diverse public schools in Israel.
