Traces of Memory Photography Exhibit Opens at Pepperdine University

Pepperdine’s Diane and Guilford Glazer Institute for Jewish Studies is presenting "Traces of Memory: A Contemporary Look at the Jewish Past in Poland,“ which examines relics of Jewish life and culture in Polish Galicia. The exibit couples photos by late photojournalist Chris Schwarz with research and texts by Professor Dr. Jonathan Webber, vice-chairman of the Institute for Polish-Jewish Studies at University of Oxford, UK. These works were compiled over a period of twelve years to present a new way of looking at the lost Jewish heritage in Poland.

The opening event, which is being held today (2/1/11) from 1-4pm, features a lecture from Los Angeles Public Library curator Louise Steinman. Steinman is currently writing The Crooked Mirror: My Conversation with Poland, an examination of her family’s personal history through the Holocaust.
