During
eighteen years of service as president of The Jewish
Federation of Greater Los Angeles,
John Fishel helped develop a host of domestic programs,
including KOREH L.A., the Holy Land Democracy Project,
the Geller Leadership
Project, and Fed Up with Hunger – the Federation’s
community-wide initiative to end hunger in Los Angeles.
Internationally, he oversaw the creation
of the Tel Aviv/Los Angeles Partnership and other ground-breaking
programs, raising community awareness for human service
needs in Israel, the former Soviet Union and the Baltics
region.
He was instrumental in helping the Federation raise nearly
$1 billion in total financial resources.
| In
order to honor his commitment to the engagement
of young adults in Jewish life and his passion
for fostering new, cutting-edge initiatives, proceeds
from the event’s Tribute Journal will be
used to establish the John Fishel Scholarship Fund
for Community Service to motivate and prepare young
Jewish leaders ages 25-40 to take an active role
in community service at home or abroad. |
