“Jewels of Elul”: Inspiration Just a Click Away
Three years ago, Jewish music luminary Craig Taubman was asked to write a song based on Psalm 27, recited during Elul, a time leading up to the Jewish New Year when each of us is instructed to prepare for the high holy days through reflection and introspection.

But Taubman thought, “Why stop there?” Elul presented an excellent opportunity to share with others inspiring words that would aid them in this time of contemplation. What emerged was “Jewels of Elul,” a collection of thoughts and wisdom shared by 29 remarkable individuals, made available both online and in a printed booklet.
“Everyone can take this time of year to learn and to grow, whether they are Jewish or not," says Taubman of his motivation behind the project. “These jewels of inspiration are free. They belong to everyone.”
Now in its third year, Taubman’s “Jewels of Elul” has become a phenomenal success, attracting submissions from a broad array of inspiring figures – Jewish and non-Jewish alike. This year’s topic, “Hope and Healing,” features submissions from Elie Wiesel, the Dalai Lama, the Mayor of Sderot, Deborah Lipstadt, Matisyahu, Kirk Douglas and more.
Beginning August 15, on each of the 29 days of Elul, a “jewel” will be posted on JewelsofElul.com. This year, 50,000 free copies of the booklet have been made available through the support of the American Committee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
