On June 15 at the Bungalow Club, the Young Leadership Division ushered in the long days and hot nights of summer at their annual Summer Bash.

YLDers mingled and cheered on the Lakers as they enjoyed delicious hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, onion rings, and frozen chocolate bananas from Let’s Have A Cart Party, and a full candy bar spread from The Sweet Spot. Later on in the evening, guests packed the dance floor as DJ Dwayne from Party Layne spun music into the night.

David Landis, chair of The Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Division Social Committee, said, “Due to our successful community-based outreach programs, our annual Summer Bash party was a hit. More than 200 people from diverse Jewish backgrounds enjoyed a fun-filled evening.”

Nooshin Afshani agreed that it was an incredibly successful evening. “Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves, meeting new people or catching up with old friends. There was a sense of community – you felt welcome even if it was your first time at an YLD event!”

Supreme Court Panel is a Big Success
for the 16th Year in a Row

More than 250 of Los Angeles' top legal minds came out to support the Legal Division’s 16th annual Supreme Court Panel, held on June 5 at The Beverly Hills Hotel.

Chief Judge Alex Kozinski; Legal Division chair Jonathan Anschell, event chair Fredrick Levin, moderator Susan Estrich, and Judge Stephen Reinhardt

This year's panel was moderated by Susan Estrich and featured Judge Stephen Reinhardt and Chief Judge Alex Kozinski, both of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Estrich, an author, commentator, lawyer, and professor of constitutional law at the University of Southern California, moderated a frank and lively debate, which focused on upcoming Supreme Court decisions and the state of the court as it moves forward in a year of political decision-making that will affect the Court for many years to come.

This marked the third time Mayer Brown, LLP, has sponsored the Federation’s Supreme Court Panel. Mayer Brown partner Fredrick Levin, who chaired the event for the third time in a row, was extremely pleased with the success of the evening.

“We were fortunate to have Susan Estrich as the moderator - her wit and insight kept the dialogue on track,” said Levin. “As always, the judges were sharp, the sarcasm was biting, and the humor was unending.”

It’s Cooler by the Pool Attracts
Hundreds of Current and Prospective Entertainment Division Members

More than 300 Entertainment Division members schmoozed and mingled at the division’s second annual summer party, It’s Cooler by the Pool, which gave new and prospective division members the opportunity to meet and get to know current and active division members and learn more about the Entertainment Division and the Federation.

Guests enjoyed mai tais and pupu platters while previewing the new Entertainment Division outreach video. Created and conceptualized entirely by division members who wrote, directed, edited, and starred in the video, the three-minute piece was a big hit at the event.

“I’m thrilled with the reaction to the video that the Outreach Committee put together,” said Entertainment Division Outreach Committee co-chair Holly Frank. “The inspiration to create it came from a desire to communicate to others why we are so passionate about the organization and why we got involved. There was a lot of heart, energy and soul that went into the piece and it was gratifying to see the final product.”

Co-chair PJ Lewis agreed. “By all accounts, the event was a major success. There was a fantastic blend of familiar faces here along with many new faces, and I think that is a true testament to how much the Entertainment Division has grown and how it will only get stronger and stronger,” he said. “Our goal with the event and the video was to inspire a sense of curiosity for prospective members to find out more about the Entertainment Division and get involved, and ultimately, we hope these members evolve into future leaders.”
