Calling All Runners! The Federation Wants You!
Interested in running in the Los Angeles Marathon
next year? A group of longtime marathon runners involved with
The Jewish Federation wants to start a running havurah,
where friends of the Federation can meet to run and train together
for the upcoming race, held next year on Sunday, March 1, 2009.
Longtime Federation donor Jeff Polak, who has
been competing in marathons for many years, came up with the
concept of the running havurah. He envisions regular
training sessions held at different locations throughout the
city and valley where havurah members can meet up and
train with others at their experience level. He hopes that along
with creating new relationships for runners who are involved
with the Federation, the group will also be able to raise funds
on its behalf.
“People are looking for new ways to get
involved, and I think that participating in the L.A. Marathon
is a really unique way for people to take part in something within
the greater Los Angeles community,” says Polak. “I
want to create a new vehicle for fundraising, and this seems
like a neat opportunity for our community to get involved with
the event. So we’re just running with the idea – no
pun intended!”
