A Parade of Puppets: KOREH L.A. Student Creations

At KOREH L.A., we are in the business of fostering the love and enjoyment of reading in children. When making reading fun for kids, books and arts activities often go hand-in-hand!

At our most recent Regional Meeting, KOREH L.A. volunteers explored how they can utilize arts and crafts projects to help ensure reading comprehension. One of the projects consisted of making puppets based on characters in a book. Since then, many volunteers have tried this project with their own reading partners, and we'd love to share some of the results with you!

This is Bob the Snowman, a creation of a first grade student at Carthay Center Elementary School.

This is another creation from one of our first grade students at Carthay Center. She made this puppet based on the mother from "Julius," a children's book by Angela Johnson.

This third grade student at Crescent Heights Magnet School looks like he is concentrating very hard on making a puppet that is modeled on Simba, a character from "Roar!" This children's book is based on the Disney movie, "The Lion King."

Finally, meet Stink, a puppet created by a third-grader at Normandie Elementary School after he read "Stink and the World's Worst Super-Stinky Sneakers" with his KOREH L.A. Reading Mentor!

If you and your students have worked on any creative projects together, we would love to share them here, on our blog. Email your pictures and a brief description to KorehTeam2@JewishLA.org . Please do not send photos in which your student's face can be clearly identified.
