Literacy Resources Online - Reading Is Fundamental

One of KOREH L.A.'s partners in closing the achievement gap for Los Angeles children is the local chapter of Reading is Fundamental (RIF). The RIF website is a fantastic literacy resource for both children and adults. Their "Reading Planet" children's "Book Zone" is a must-see. Be sure to click on "Read Along Stories and Songs", a tool which reads stories out loud in a virtual book format, highlighting each word as it is spoken. Animated pictures accompany each story. What a great resource for encouraging children to read at home! Additionally, the "Heritage Shelf" provides reading lists, activities, and games that celebrate different ethnicities.

The RIF "Literacy Resources" page  provides book lists, age-appropriate activities, and assorted articles which are sure to provide fuel for your next reading session. Another highlight is the printable brochure, "How to Get Preschoolers Excited About Reading." It is especially noteworthy for KOREH L.A. volunteers, because it focuses on the challenges of working with the very youngest readers.

Happy Reading!
