Spotlight on Pre-K KOREH L.A.
We frequently hear volunteers express that their reading partner's troubles in literacy could have been prevented with earlier exposure to books. We are proud to announce that on January 28th, we held a Pre-K KOREH training that highlighted the need for enthusiastic mentors early in a child's development.
Studies show that children who enter kindergarten behind in reading skills will likely stay behind for the remainder of their educational career. By engaging students in reading readiness activities during preschool, they have a better chance of entering kindergarten feeling confident and prepared. Our PRE-K KOREH volunteers work with small groups of students within the classroom environment for one hour per week. The structure of the preschool classroom is best suited for volunteers with flexibility and, as always, an enthusiasm for reading.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this rewarding opportunity and becoming a Pre-K KOREH volunteer, please contact our Pre-K KOREH Coordinator, Carly Altman, at (323) 761-8344 or KorehTeam3@JewishLA.org.
