‘Tis the Season for Hot Chocolate and Holiday Stories!
‘Tis the season for wintery literacy events! While Los Angeles might not have actual snowflakes, that certainly does not mean we can't have wintery fun!
Barnes and Noble is holding a Polar Express story time at locations throughout the city on this Friday, December 9th. At 7:00 pm, round up your children or grandchildren, and head over to your nearest Barnes and Noble hosting this event. Click here for locations. With cookies and hot chocolate, what better way to spend a chilly December evening?
The Central Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is hosting "December Holidays from Around the World" on Saturday December 17 from 2:00-3:00 in the Mark Taper Auditorium. Customs, songs, and stories near and dear to cultures around the world will be presented and performed by Georgette Baker, a professional story teller. The Central Branch is located at 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071. Please click here to read the description on Los Angeles Public Library's website.
Two other events from the Los Angeles Public Library sound especially festive! On Wednesday, December 28, 2011, there will be a "Happy New Year's Story Time" at 3:30-4:30, also at the Central Branch. Please click here for further details. Additionally, on Thursday, December 29th from 3:30-4:30, Los Angeles County Museum of Art instructors will be at the Central Branch to hold a "Winter Holiday Art Afternoon with LACMA."
Please click here for further details.
If you decide to go to one of the Central Branch Literacy events, you will find yourself very close to "Downtown on Ice." For approximately $8.00 you can rent skates at the outdoor ice rink located at 532 South Olive St, Los Angeles, CA 90013, in Pershing Square. The rink will be open until January 16th, 2012. Please click here for further details about "Downtown on Ice."
Hot chocolate might very well be in order after an afternoon of story time and skating! Chocoholics, located at 201 N Larchmont Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90004, makes a dangerously delicious "Belgian Hot Chocolate" and "Sipping Chocolate." On the other side of town, Zona Rosa Café, located at 15 South El Molino Ave., Pasadena CA 91101, is the place to go for authentic Mexican hot chocolate. With some store-bought eggnog, or some Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate and sugar cookies aplenty, be they homemade or with a little help from Pillsbury, you could easily bring the holiday cheer home!
Finally, please click here to view an excellent list of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, and winter themed storybooks kids are sure to love! Cajun Night before Christmas, one of the books listed, was always popular with my younger brother. Pair one of these fantastic reads with those sugar cookies baking in the oven!
Your wintery story time will surely become a tradition in 2012 and beyond!
