We’re growing up! After only one and a half years of giving preschoolers the one on one attention they deserve, we’re maturing, smoothing out the rough edges and coming out even stronger.

Working with preschoolers is fun and rewarding, and still can be challenging. Children enjoy moving around a lot and have rather small attention spans – in short the classroom can potentially be intimidating for some volunteers. However many volunteers have told us wonderful stories about how the kids run to them when they enter the class, and how other children join them to read and play games.

Therefore with all the rewards and challenges in mind, we’re intensifying our efforts to further develop Pre-K KOREH.

LAUSD
In the past several months we have formed 11 partnerships with Los Angeles Unified School District Early Education Centers (EEC’s). These schools are a great addition to Pre-K KOREH because they have longer hours and more days - so there are more opportunities to volunteer. Moreover this partnership is especially exciting because almost all of the EEC’s are attached to an elementary school that KOREH L.A. is partnered with. This means that if a volunteer and child forge a genuine connection, they can choose to continue working together throughout their elementary years.

Focus Group
On July 27, we held our first Pre-K KOREH Focus Group – what a tremendous success! Volunteers, staff, and lay leaders shared experiences and learned from each other. We also formulated new ideas for improvement. For example, from now on all new volunteers will only observe the classroom on their first day. This means that before they start working with the children, they will be even more comfortable with the preschool environment.

Angell
The Angell Foundation has generously renewed their sponsorship of Pre-K KOREH for a second year! We are all very lucky to have such a wonderful partner.
