On Thursday, February 1, 2007 Coliseum Elementary was the recipient of a newly restocked library. The Katherine Smith O’Brien Memorial Book Fund, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. & KOREH L.A. joined together to restock the library with more than 1,000 brand new books. The second grade class performance for the audience highlighted the event. Evan O’Brien, son of Michael and Katherine O’Brien (of blessed memory), lead the students in an animated reading of The Napping House while his grandmother, Aubrey Carter (Katherine’s mother), helped turn the pages. Everyone enjoyed seeing the beautiful new books that now fill the once empty library shelves. It was special to honor the memory of Katherine Smith O’Brien, her love of reading and her advocacy for the literacy movement.

This event is part of KOREH L.A.’s Book Initiative, formed to replenish the old, under-stocked libraries of our neediest public schools. Coliseum School is the eighth library restocked by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., and the tenth library restocked by KOREH L.A. We look forward to our continued partnership with Toyota in helping provide the children of Los Angeles with books to read. For more information on the KOREH L.A. Book Initiative, please visit www.korehla.org.
