Friday, December 8th was a morning filled with surprises. We celebrated Sylvan Park Elementary School’s Library Restocking! Ms. Anderson’s second grade class was the first to see more than 1,000 brand new books on their library shelves thanks to another generous donation by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Guests were also excited to see Captain David Cohen and his fellow Firefighters of Fire Station 39 in Van Nuys sitting at the front of the room to read a story. Unfortunately, before the story could be read, Captain Cohen himself was interrupted by an emergency call which forced him and his teammates to rush out the door to go help citizens in peril.

Of course, none of us here at KOREH L.A. are surprised by Toyota’s generosity. This is the seventh library they have restocked with us and our special thanks go out to Michael Rouse, Toyota’s Corporate Manager of Philanthropy and Community Affairs, who is committed to working with KOREH L.A. to restock more LAUSD elementary school libraries and thus enrich the lives of our students.

Dedicated Sylvan Park volunteers Sally Bookbinder, Judy Glickman, David Rittenberg, and Esther Rubin were also in attendance to help us celebrate the event. Without the commitment of volunteers like them, and all of you, many children would not be getting the second chance to gain the literacy skills so vital to a productive life. On behalf of all of us here at KOREH L.A., we would like to thank Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. and all of our volunteers. Your efforts make the world a better place.
