My second grade teacher, Mrs.
Schilling, always used to tell our class that "team" wasn't
just a word, but also an acronym for "Together Everyone
Achieves More." Despite being seven years-old, and having
no idea what Mrs. Schilling meant when she said "acronym," I
fully understood the concept: wonderful things can be accomplished
when people work together.
The Jewish Federation's Entertainment
Division (led by Meredith Weiss and Libby Shani, with help from
Jillian Spencer) decided to organize "The Richland Elementary
School Beautification Project."
On Sunday, September 9th,
approximately thirty young professionals from the division (led
by Reuben Liber)
set
out to help Richland Elementary, a proud KOREH L.A. school, achieve
much-needed aesthetic improvements. These volunteers were split
into three teams to paint classroom shelves, weed the front yard
of the school, paint a mural on a blank wall facing the playground,
and paint the equipment shed. Each team completed an hour rotation
at the different areas, and as you can see from the photos, they
did a magnificent job!
When I was in grade school I learned the concept of T.E.A.M.; Together Everyone Achieves More. Working with the volunteers at Richland Elementary School on September 9th , I was reminded of this concept. Seeing the progress we made, the goals we achieved working together, and how beautiful Richland looked after our work there, I truly understand the concept of TEAM.
A very special thanks to Ellen DeLeston, Principal of Richland Elementary, for making this project possible.
