The Details
"The Morality Training of Israeli Soldiers: Lessons Learned from the Gaza Flotilla" with Professor Amos Guiora Amid the international uproar surrounding Israel’s raid of the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, renewed attention has been drawn on the decisions, policies and practices of the Israel Defense Forces. Has Israel, as its detractors allege, once again crossed the boundaries of morally acceptable behavior? Or does the IDF, in accordance with international law, function on the principle that military operations must to all extent possible avoid damage to civilian life, dignity and property? What lessons can Israel learn from the Gaza Flotilla incident?
Professor Amos Guiora will discuss these and other issues including the right of self-defense, the geo-political considerations underpinning Israel’s relationship with Turkey and others, and the morality dilemmas of counter-terrorism.
