On a regular basis, our elected officials consider legislation that impacts the Jewish community. The Jewish Federation's Community Engagement Strategic Initiative galvanizes our members and partners to advocate for policy that impacts Jewish families, our community and Israel.

We build relationships with policy makers at the local and state level. Each year our Federation takes a delegation of California Legislators on a mission to Israel. After the trips, we maintain these relationships to ensure our elected representatives understand and support our community, Israel and the key issues we face.

In 2012, we:

  • Hosted a series of salons featuring Los Angeles Mayoral candidates and a Presidential debate viewing party, cosponsored by several of our community partners.

  • Convened local Jewish organizations to deter members of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement at Los Angeles City Hall. We worked closely with our City Council Members to contest a movement trying to convince the city of Los Angeles not to do business with a transportation company in Israel.

  • Worked closely with the Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC) to advocate on traditional community concerns and shared values, such as preventing anti-Semitism on college campuses, Iran divestment and promoting the California-Israel relationship.

Want to get involved? Here is how:

  • Attend our events to learn from, and connect with, local policy makers.

  • Notify us if you are facing a local concern relevant to the Jewish Community.

  • Learn more about our coalitions fighting or supporting issues that relate to our Jewish values and Israel.
