Call for Capital Improvement Proposals

USC Hillel building renovated with funding  and consulting by RPO

The Real Estate Principals Organization (RPO) of Jewish Federation Los Angeles is requesting proposals from nonprofit Jewish organizations seeking funding and/or consultation for communal real estate projects. RPO is comprised of real estate principals and chief executives who help our Federation provide meaningful assistance to Jewish organizations across Los Angeles that are looking to renovate buildings and infrastructure. If you have a construction or capital improvement project that would benefit from RPO’s expertise, the deadline for this year’s applications is August 26, 2013.

RPO members are actively engaged in the community through real estate projects, mentoring the next generation of leaders in business and philanthropy, and through their financial support of our Federation’s impactful work. For over seven years, RPO has partnered with our Federation to provide funding and consulting services to organizations in need of real estate, financial and business expertise. Grants are made to organizations whose programs fall within the Federation’s strategic initiatives: Caring for Jews in Need, Ensuring the Jewish Future, and Community Engagement.

Grants have been made to communal organizations running the gamut from camps, community centers, museums, Hillels and more (synagogues and synagogue schools that have a membership component are not eligible for grants, but can apply for consulting services related to construction projects.)  RPO and the Federation provide assistance for projects ranging from new construction to renovation of existing facilities to repair of basic infrastructure.  Some examples of the ways our Federation’s RPO grants have had an impact are:

  • Helping our community’s historic Breed Street Shul carry out needed seismic repairs in order to reopen a building on the site that had been closed for many years;
  • Aiding Shalom Institute to build a new dining hall and renovate the boys bunk area so that campers would have access to facilities that will stand the test of time;
  • Assisting Jewish Family Service as they relocated their SOVA food and resource program to a new location that required renovation;
  • Partnering with Friendship Circle of Los Angeles on My Backyard, a playground for children of all abilities.

If you have a project that seems like a good fit for a Federation RPO grant, we urge you to review the application materials and submit a proposal by August 26th.   Here are links to our application and cover sheet.  For additional information, contact Scott Minkow at The Jewish Federation: SMinkow@JewishLA.org.
