Did you know Judaism has a New Year for Animals? On the first of Elul, Rosh Hashanah La’Beheimot (New Year for Animals) calls us to honor our sacred connection with animals.

Come celebrate with meaningful ritual, delicious plant-based food, and deep discussion as we breathe new life into this ancient tradition.

Our program will include:

Special guest speaker Rabbi Jonathan Bernhard — sharing insights on Jewish ethics, animal welfare, and our responsibility to creation.

A nourishing, fully plant-based meal — honoring Jewish tradition while reflecting our values of compassion and sustainability.

Ritual and reflection — connecting the themes of Elul and the High Holidays with our relationship to animals.

The month of Elul calls us to heshbon hanefesh — a spiritual accounting of how we’ve lived and how we can do better. The New Year for Animals invites us to extend that reflection beyond human relationships, embracing the Torah’s call to tza’ar ba’alei chayim — the prevention of animal suffering — and to live as rachmanim b’nei rachmanim, compassionate children of compassionate ancestors.

As we hear the first shofar blasts of Elul, may we also hear the call to protect the vulnerable, steward creation, and walk more gently in the world.
