Night of the Murdered Poets: Celebrating Itzik Feffer

Join us for a moving evening of poetry and song commemorating the Night of the Murdered Poets, with a special focus on the life and legacy of Itzik Feffer. A celebrated Soviet Yiddish poet and activist, Feffer was among the thirteen Jewish intellectuals executed on August 12, 1952, in what would become a brutal symbol of Stalinist repression against Jewish culture.
Through readings of Feffer’s haunting and defiant verse, alongside musical interpretations of his work and that of his contemporaries, we will reflect on the enduring power of Yiddish creativity in the face of censorship and violence.
This program invites audiences to remember not only a tragic chapter of history, but to reclaim the radical cultural spirit that Feffer embodied.
We gather in his name to celebrate the resilience of language, art, and memory.
This event is proudly presented by the Southern California Arbeter Ring Educational Center and Kultur Mercado.
