(Los Angeles, June 1, 2019) Actors Millie Perkins and Diane Baker, who starred in the 1959 20th Century Fox feature The Diary of Anne Frank, will read the new children’s book, The Cat Who Lived with Anne Frank, on Wednesday evening June 12, 2019, at an event in Los Angeles, Anne Frank Tribute & Book Reading with Millie Perkins & Diane Baker, that honors the 90th anniversary of Anne Frank’s birth.

The evening, devoted to the memory of the teenage diarist who died tragically in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills (8844 Burton Way). Admission is free. Perkins and Baker will discuss the making of the original film, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and then read The Cat Who Lived with Anne Frank. The book, written by David Lee Miller and Steven Jay Rubin, is a new children’s picture book, published by Penguin/Random House, that tells the story of life in the Amsterdam “Secret Annex,” but from the unique point of view of Mouschi, a black cat that really lived there, and was brought into the annex by Peter Van Pels, whose family lived in hiding with the Frank’s for two years, along with dentist, Fritz Pfeffer.

The reading and discussion will be followed by a reception and a book signing by Miller and Rubin.

Perkins was the first actor to portray Anne Frank on film, starring in the motion picture that was directed by George Stevens, based on the successful Broadway play. Baker portrayed Anne’s sister, Margot. The film won three Oscars: Best Cinematography, Black-and-White, Best Art Direction, Black-and-White, and Best Supporting Actress for Shelley Winters’ turn as Petronella Van Daan (Auguste van Pels in real life).

Anne Frank, born in Germany in 1929, wrote what is arguably the most celebrated non-fiction book in history, The Diary of a Young Girl. First published in Holland in the summer of 1947, it has since been translated into over 55 languages with more than 25 million copies sold.

Registration is required for this event. Please RSVP by visiting TEBH.org/annefrank or calling (310) 409-4653.
