From Generation to Generation with The Hebrew Mamita

This year’s L’Dor V’Dor invitation brightened mailboxes across Los Angeles with a vibrant shade of pink and an exciting new logo, which perfectly complements the launch of our new D2: L’Dor V’Dor event for women of all generations—an entertaining brunch on October 1st featuring “The Hebrew Mamita!”

“D2: L’Dor V’Dor is a fresh new take on our annual tradition,” Lori Weisskopf, Event Co-Chair said. “Because we want to engage both our current and future generations equally, we’ve made sure that our 2013 brunch will be both relevant and meaningful for everyone who attends.”

This year’s brunch is taking elegance to a whole new level, thanks to Jeanne and Tony Pritzker, who so generously offered up their Beverly Hills home as our venue.  Offering breathtaking views of Los Angeles, their art-filled home is the perfect location for D2: L’Dor V’Dor to debut.

Another way we’re ensuring that D2 will kick off on a high note is by bringing in Vanessa Hidary, a hip guest speaker whose contemporary views on her Jewish identity are sure to strike a chord with us all. Also known as “The Hebrew Mamita,” Vanessa is a writer/performer whose solo shows have toured nationally and earned her spots on both HBO’s Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry Jam and in the short film The Tribe.  In 2010, Vanessa wowed leaders who attended the Lion of Judah conference in New Orleans, where she performed at the opening reception.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be hosting Vanessa Hidary and sharing her unique style and Jewish pride with even more dedicated members of our Federation’s Women’s Campaign,” said Lori.  “We’re confident that this year’s event will be just the first of many unforgettable events from D2 to come.”

We’re also proud to be presenting Janis Black Warner with this year’s Doris Factor Young Women’s Leadership Award.  Janis learned about tikkun olam as a child from her parents Joyce and Stanley Black.  She chaired her first Federation event when she was just 18, and has since become a proud Lion of Judah as well as a former chair of L’Dor V’Dor among other leadership roles, both within The Jewish Federation and beyond.

“With all that Janis has brought to our Federation and to the Jewish community, there’s no better recipient for this year’s award,” Lynn Bider, Sylvia Weisz Campaign Chair said.

The 2013 D2: L’Dor V’Dor event is taking place on Tuesday, October 1st.  Click here to register or for more information.
