Even before October 7, 2023, the global Jewish community was experiencing a surge in antisemitism. We can easily recall the hostage-taking of Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker in Texas, the incidents with Kanye West, and the two Pico-Robertson shootings in 2022.
In response to these events, JFEDLA pivoted to fight antisemitism in a strategic and holistic manner. For over a century, JFEDLA has responded to the greatest needs of the global Jewish community and Israel. Fighting antisemitism is an integral part of this mission.
In the wake of October 7th, JFEDLA has undertaken many new initiatives to fight antisemitism on college campuses, in the workplace, in civic spaces, and online. Our role as the lead community builder and convener in L.A. uniquely positions us to act in many areas simultaneously.
This paper analyzes the impact antisemitism is having in L.A. – across campuses, in board rooms, in schools, in workplaces, and the heavy toll it is placing on concerned community members. JFEDLA’s capacity for action, and our unique approach, are outlined herein.
