Federation Impact Update — December 2024

Welcome to Values in Action Monthly – formerly the Impact Update. In December, we put the values of community and friendship in action by bringing together Jews and non-Jews of all ages to bask in the warm glow of Hanukkah.

INFINITE LIGHT SPREAD THE JOY OF HANUKKAH TO YOUNG ADULTS

Our young adult initiative NuRoots celebrated 10 years of spreading the light of Hanukkah joy through the citywide winter festival Infinite Light. It’s been a fabulous decade of Hanukkah creatively reimagined through hundreds of events serving thousands of Angelenos in their 20s and 30s from every corner of our dynamic city. We reveled in
the anniversary of possibility through immersive gatherings that have become L.A. traditions, such as our dazzling Hanukkah party hosted this year in Santa Monica. As always, Infinite Light brought together visionary thought leaders, community co-creators, and beloved partners and friends for over a week of warmth and togetherness. Our cherished young adult community felt seen and celebrated.

CHILDREN EXPERIENCED THE WONDERS OF THE SEASON AT L.A. ZOO LIGHTS

Over 250 PJ Library participants illuminated a dark mid-December night by celebrating Hanukkah at L.A. Zoo Lights. Families learned about our city’s diverse Jewish communities while creating beautiful Hanukkah-themed paper lanterns in partnership with The LUNAR Collective. Guests also enjoyed delicious churros with our friends at Jewtina. This wildly popular annual event continues to grow; all 250 tickets sold out in less than one minute. It was a truly unforgettable celebration of culture and light that instilled the joy and wonder of Hanukkah into the youngest members of our loving community.

OUR SHINE A LIGHT PROGRAM BUILT BRIDGES OF EMPATHY ACROSS L.A.

We were proud to bring together federal, state, and local elected officials, as well as civic, faith, and community leaders from across Los Angeles to celebrate the beautiful diversity of L.A. and the L.A. Jewish community at our Shine A Light – Annual L.A. Leaders Hanukkah Celebration. Leaders participated in a menorah lighting ceremony overlooking City Hall, reciting blessings centered around unity, allyship, resilience, bridge building, and combating hate. Collectively, we honored the many facets of our identities and the meaningful contributions of our city’s diverse communities. We are deeply grateful to the 26 elected leaders who stood with us in solidarity to Shine A Light on antisemitism and all forms of hate.
