Our January Impact Update focuses on the values of community and strength, which are the foundations of our city’s ongoing response to the evolving wildfire crisis.
GIVING CRUCIAL INFORMATION TO THOSE IN NEED
Our community briefing webinars have provided valuable, on-the-ground updates about the wildfires and resources available for those impacted. We’ve brought together elected officials, community leaders, and social service experts to share about the latest recovery efforts, resources available, and actionable steps we can take together to rebuild and support those in need.

HELPING DAMAGED NEIGHBORHOODS RECOVER
From Pacific Palisades to Altadena to any area impacted by this disaster, our commitment to rebuilding the region
is strong and unconditional. Since the wildfires started, our President & CEO Rabbi Noah Farkas, alongside JFEDLA leadership, has spent time at Chabad of Malibu, neighborhoods in Pacific Palisades, and various impacted areas in the San Gabriel Valley to understand the scale of the crisis and learn firsthand how we can best support the recovery process. When we come together as we have during this sobering experience, our community gains strength from knowing that no one will face this tragedy alone.
Rabbi Farkas wrote a moving op-ed published by eJewishPhilanthropy about the values of strength and community. Read it by visiting JewishLA.org/op-ed.
CONSTANTLY EXPANDING OUR WILDFIRE CRISIS RESOURCE GUIDE
Immediately after wildfires began, we mobilized to create our Wildfire Crisis Resource Guide, which is a continuously updated website our community can visit to get help or give help. The guide provides essential resources, including mental health support, warm meals, and shelter. It also connects displaced individuals, families, and institutions with spaces that are available throughout the city. Over 30,000 people and counting have viewed the guide, proving its usefulness for our community.

COMFORTING CHILDREN IMPACTED BY THE CRISIS
We’re providing funding and volunteers to our partner, Camp Bob Waldorf, which is collaborating with Project:Camp, an organization that establishes free, pop-up, trauma-informed day camps in response to major disasters across the country. In late-January, Camp Bob Waldorf welcomed local children whose lives were impacted by the wildfires to give them a place to heal, reflect, and play.
