Federation Impact Update — June 2025

In June, we came together to advocate for our protection in our nation’s capital, celebrated belonging during Pride Shabbat, and honored the strength of our treasured Holocaust survivors.

UNITING FOR JEWISH SECURITY IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Leaders from our Los Angeles Jewish community joined leaders from 100 Jewish communities and over 50 national organizations in Washington, D.C. in late June for an Emergency Leadership Mission, organized by the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Together, we advocated for vital measures to protect our communities, which is more urgent than ever given the devastating rise in antisemitic violence across the country. This national show of unity reinforces the work we’re doing every day through our Community Security Initiative to keep us safe. Strengthening relationships with lawmakers and advocating for critical security initiatives ensures Jewish Los Angeles remains resilient and protected.

HONORING OUR SOLIDARITY AT COMMUNITY PRIDE SHABBAT

Pride Month came to life with songs, stories, and spirited community at the Community Pride Shabbat, co-hosted by JQ, IKAR, and supported by our young adult initiative NuRoots. Young people, families, and allies of all backgrounds took in a meaningful Kabbalat Shabbat service followed by a vegetarian dinner, and an insightful post-meal panel. It was a vibrant affirmation honoring inclusivity.

GIVING LOVE TO OUR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS

Bringing joy to our Holocaust survivors is a gift. In celebration of Holocaust Survivor Day, 75 survivors came together with their families and caregivers for an afternoon of music, dancing, and heartfelt appreciation. Alongside our partners at Jewish Family Service LA, Kavod Shef, and Seed the Dream Foundation, we paid tribute to survivors’ resilience through klezmer songs, a student choir performance, moving remarks, and a thoughtful touch — a beautiful orchid for each survivor to take home. It was a day of joy, connection, and joy that reminded these treasured members of our community how deeply they are loved.
