Federation Impact Update — March 2025

In March, we proudly put the value of teaching young people in action. At every stage of the Jewish journey, from early childhood to the college experience and beyond, we are making a lasting impact on Jewish youth in the city we love.

REDUCING TUITION FOR FAMILIES RECOVERING FROM THE WILDFIRES

Our Helping Uplift Generations (HUG) Fund offers tuition assistance for Jewish Early Childhood Centers (ECCs) and overnight summer camps to families affected by the wildfires. The HUG Fund covers 50% of tuition at Builders of Jewish Education-affiliated ECCs for this school year and Jewish overnight camps this summer. Families who have lost their homes, businesses, or jobs from the fires may qualify for this critical support.

EMPOWERING JEWISH STUDENTS ON CAMPUS

We maintain a strong and supportive Jewish presence on local college campuses through our Campus Impact Network (CIN). This month, CIN staff helped recruit and prepare Jewish students from across the UC system to deliver impactful public comments both in-person and virtually to the UC Regents about campus safety and inclusion. It was a tangible demonstration of our student-centered advocacy. The students eloquently testified before the Regents, expressing the need to make our campus communities safer for all students.

JFEDLA leadership was proud to take part in a City Hall event welcoming UCLA’s new Chancellor, Julio Frank. We are honored to serve on Chancellor Frank’s Antisemitism Advisory Council, established to support the Chancellor’s recently launched Initiative to Combat Antisemitism.

At USC, we will attend the Trojans for Israel Leadership Dinner on March 30th, along with USC’s Interim President Beong- Soo Kim. The presence of university leadership confirms the reach and effectiveness of this student-led program, which we are dedicated to supporting.

LAUNCHING NUBLOOM TO BUILD COMMUNITY FOR YOUNG FAMILIES

NuBloom ushers in a Nu era of creative, inclusive, and innovative programming for families with children under 12. Inspired by our beloved young adult community, NuRoots, NuBloom empowers families of all backgrounds and identities to shape their own Jewish journeys. Guided by the values of community, hospitality, friendship, and menchyness (doing the right thing with empathy and generosity), NuBloom will be the Nu home for popular JFEDLA initiatives such as LA jBabies, PJ Library, our Family Camps in Ojai, and Momentum Moms.
