Federation Impact Update — May 2026

You continue to support Jewish Los Angeles with strength, pride, and purpose. From advocating for Jewish community priorities in Sacramento to celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month across our city to supporting women through their fertility journey to feeling the joy of good-natured competition, here are just a few of the ways your philanthropy made an impact in May.

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH ADVOCACY IN SACRAMENTO

Community grows stronger when we raise our voices as one. At the Jewish California Capitol Summit in Sacramento, more than 150 Angelenos, comprising a quarter of all total participants, joined Jewish leaders and allies from across the state to champion the priorities that matter most to our community; it was the largest Los Angeles delegation in the summit’s history. During the two-day event, attendees met directly with 120 state officials to combat antisemitism and hate, secure houses of worship, protect vulnerable Californians, and support safe schools for Jewish students. JFEDLA leaders played a prominent role in the summit, including President & CEO Rabbi Noah Farkas, who interviewed Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis during a fireside chat focused on protecting Jewish communities. Together, our JFEDLA delegation demonstrated the power of civic engagement rooted in Jewish values.

CELEBRATING JEWISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

Sharing our stories and our values are impactful ways to honor Jewish history. This Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM), we brought Jewish history, learning, and community-building to people all over the city through film festivals, volunteer opportunities, educational resources, and public programs that celebrated the contributions Jews continue to make in shaping American life. This JAHM, we created a series of posters placed in over 500 classrooms and libraries featuring prominent Jewish Americans ranging from Bob Dylan to Ruth Bader Ginsburg whose achievements have had a lasting influence on our country. The posters helped people all over the city learn about the enduring impact of Jewish Americans across generations. We also were proud to partner with Los Angeles City Hall, Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield and Katy Yaroslavsky, as well as Jewish Historical Society and JAHMLA, to cosponsor the flagship JAHM celebration honoring Jewish Olympians, as L.A. prepares to welcome the world for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. JFEDLA also joined the inaugural JAHM celebration on the floor of our State Capitol. Local leaders, including Julie Platt and Jonah Platt, were recognized for their contributions to our community.

EXAMINING FERTILITY THROUGH A JEWISH LENS

A compassionate community creates spaces to navigate life’s most personal challenges. This month, community members came together for Modern Fertility Through a Jewish Lens, an important conversation in which doctors, Jewish leaders, and fertility experts with lived experience discussed reproductive health through both contemporary and Jewish perspectives. Many different resources were available at the event, including live support from mental health professionals familiar with this space, and a resource table with helpful take-home pamphlets. It was an enlightening evening in which participants explored how Jewish wisdom can help clarify complicated conversations around fertility and family-building.

FEELING THE JOY OF JEWISH COMMUNITY WITH RUMMIKLUBLA

FEELING THE JOY OF JEWISH COMMUNITY WITH RUMMIKLUBLA
Friendship and community flourish when people come together for some good-natured competition. This month, Jewish Professional Women (JPW) partnered with RummiKlubLA, the chic collective turning the classic tabletop game of Rummikub into one of L.A.’s most sought-after social experiences, for a Networking Game Night in Beverly Hills. The event sparked meaningful conversation and new relationships in a warm and welcoming Jewish environment.
