Federation Impact Update — November 2025

Your generous support leads to direct and vital impact on our entire Jewish community. From taking on food insecurity and strengthening interfaith ties to creating unforgettable Israel experiences and combating antisemitism, JFEDLA puts your values into action every day. Here’s a sample of the work you made possible in November.

HELPING OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS FACING FOOD INSECURITY

Compassion calls us to care for one another, especially in times of uncertainty. With thousands of Angelenos at risk due to the pause in federal food benefits, we hosted an urgent webinar to address the growing crisis and share how the L.A. Jewish community is responding. Our President & CEO Rabbi Noah Farkas, Chief Impact Officer Becky Sobelman-Stern, and Chair of our Caring for Jews in Need team Karen Getelman led a vital community conversation with representatives from our key partners — Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Jewish Family Service LA, Our Big Kitchen LA, and Heart of Los Angeles. The webinar covered where to find support and what resources are available for those in need. Together, we are ensuring that no one in our community faces hunger alone.

If you or someone you know is facing food insecurity, our Caring for Jews in Need Resource Guide can help. Download the guide at JewishLA.org/ResourceGuide

STRENGTHENING OUR BOND WITH THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY

Community means building interfaith partnerships that make our city a more understanding and compassionate place. To mark the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the historic declaration that transformed Catholic–Jewish relations, we proudly co-hosted a powerful evening of reflection and dialogue with the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and American Jewish Committee. With musical performances and moving remarks from numerous interfaith leaders, including past president of our Board of Rabbis Rabbi Sarah Hronsky, the program honored six decades of friendship between our two faith communities.

BUILDING COMMUNITY ON OUR MOMENTUM TRIP TO ISRAEL

Community grows stronger when we share transformative experiences together. This month, 23 women from our MOMentum cohort traveled to Israel for a powerful journey of connection, learning, and exploration. They visited the Nova site and Hostage Square, volunteered on a hands-on mosaic project for a local kibbutz, and met with inspiring Ethiopian-Israeli leaders. They also participated in programs exploring the values of courage (azut d’kedusha) and human dignity (kavod habriyot). The experience strengthened their bonds with one another and deepened their connection to our global Jewish community.

COMBATING ANTISEMITISM FOR JEWS IN ENTERTAINMENT

Protection and leadership guide our efforts to ensure Jews are not discriminated against in the entertainment industry. Our Legal Network and Entertainment, Media & Communications Network hosted Antisemitism in the Entertainment Workplace, a powerful panel discussion that brought together top Hollywood creatives and legal experts to discuss ways in which Jews in the industry can confront discrimination and bias. This crucial conversation gave Jewish entertainment professionals actionable knowledge and advice to help them stand strong in the face of anti-Jewish rhetoric and outright prejudice.
