Jay’s 4 Questions
A Conversation with
Shelley Zalis

Shelley Zalis, CEO of The Female Quotient (FQ) and Girls’ Lounge, is an internationally renowned thought leader for advancing equality in the workplace. She joins Jay’s 4 Questions to discuss bringing emotion to the boardroom and rephrasing “empowerment” to “confidence.” She talks about the need to create solutions and accountability for change for women in the workplace. She discusses FQ — “When you put women in any equation, the equation gets better.”

As the pioneer of online market research, Shelley also discusses her professional journey, success, and passion for giving back to the community. She says, “Charity is like wearing a new pair of shoes, especially for women. High heels are not that comfortable. When you first put them on, they hurt and pinch, but the more you wear them, the more comfortable you get. It’s the same in business — sometimes you need to make tough decisions, and giving back may not be intuitive, but the more you give, the better it feels.”

Some of our favorite quotes from the recording:

  • “Confidence is beautiful”
  • “There’s no to do list; there’s a to be list”
  • “Doing good is doing well”
  • “A woman alone is power — collectively, we have impact.”
