This #GivingTuesday Make Life Easier for L.A. Holocaust Survivors

Last November, something incredible happened across our nation. No, it wasn’t the mysterious month-long mustache-growing trend, though that, too, was incredible. And it wasn’t the pardoning of a turkey or an unprecedented retail offer, though it did bring people together in throngs, united for a common cause that didn’t involve stampeding the local mall. It was #GivingTuesday, a social media movement created in the same vein as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but with a very different message: that at this time of year when we give thanks for our family and friends, for tables bowing under the weight of scrumptious side dishes, and for holiday promotions that keep our savings intact, we should also think about giving back.

Whether you participated in our Federation’s efforts last year, or #GivingTuesday is new to you, the video below will give you an idea of what this powerful movement is all about.

In 2012, #GivingTuesday was so successful here in the U.S. that this year, nations from Australia to Mexico to Singapore are all in on the charitable action.

Jewish Federation Los Angeles has decided to focus our 2013 Giving Tuesday efforts on a special cause very near and dear to our hearts—survivors of the Holocaust. Here in L.A., there are 10,000 Holocaust survivors and roughly 30% are living in poverty or subsisting on very low income.  As Jews, we have an obligation to do everything we can to help those who have endured so much.

By making a donation of $20 or more on #GivingTuesday, you’ll provide such basic needs for local Holocaust survivors as transportation to medical appointments, bathing, meal preparation, shopping for necessities and more.

Our Federation’s goal is to raise $20,000 from the community, which will ultimately provide 1,000 hours of vital home services for these frail seniors, ensuring they can live out their lives with the dignity they so greatly deserve.

We strongly urge you to consider making Holocaust survivors in Los Angeles your #GivingTuesday cause. For as little as $20, your gift can make an enormous impact. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of thousands right here in our own community.

Make your #GivingTuesday gift to this worthy cause today!
