1) “Mysterious” by Randi Chaplin-Matushevitz

Thirty drawings on paper

Randi Chaplin-Matushevitz earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking and has taught at the University of Miami, Florida International University and Miami Dade Community College. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California with her family.

In her artist statement, she says: “in Mysterious I provide the innuendo of space, intentional references and implied mood or location, symbols and characters drawn and stenciled.  My approach is not totally new to me, but lack of color is and I made it the building block of this series.  I use charcoal, fixative, paint, print or watercolor paper. The compositions are designed to guide the viewer’s eye or give a sense of stability or movement.  They are intentionally ambiguous.  I feel that this body of work is a culmination of many previous thoughts and experiments. I am very pleased to share it.

2) “Israel Impressions” photography by Paul Margolis

Nineteen black and white photographs

Paul Margolis is a prodigiously talented photographer whose Israel Impressions of 2013 exhibit serves as a marvelous dedication to his love of Israel.

In his artist statement, he says: “In the Fall of 2013, I spent two weeks in Israel, much of it in Jerusalem. Working in the streets, markets and homes with my quiet, discreet Leica camera and black and white film, I photographed in a fluid, fast moving reportorial style. I captured pastry merchants discussing their wares, beggars soliciting for coins in the flow of shuk traffic, a young man getting a haircut on a Katamon porch, a portly bedding merchant relighting his cigarette in a quiet moment, and many more scenes. These photographs are a small portion of the work that shows slices of day- to- day life in Israel.”
