Healing our Jewish Selves

This event is part of Jewish Wisdom & Wellness: A Festival of Learning, April 26 May 3, 2015.

Our Jewish journeys provide places of great comfort and delight as well as places of darkness.  These dark places may include individual or cultural wounds. Early Jewish experiences may have impeded our sense that we could experience the Divine or participate in the Jewish community. Inherited or historical Jewish struggles may also present barriers to our spiritual growth.  Messages of anti-Semitism, direct or internalized, create obstacles in our self-images and our relationship with other Jews and with Holiness and may cause self-consciousness in the greater world. In this workshop we will explore, with pathos and humor, these aspects of our Jewish selves, to remove stumbling blocks in our pursuit of peace as individuals and as Jews. It would be helpful but not essential to view the Cone Brothers’ movie, “A Serious Man,” before we meet.

Jewish Wisdom & Wellness: A Festival of Learning The Festival brings you together with health professionals, rabbis, and teachers from across the Jewish community to examine our traditions and their impact on your well-being. From Jewish yoga to halachic bioethics and from assisting aging parents to healing services, we will help you build a toolbox of spiritual practices, physical activities and practical tools that can support your health and wellness within a foundation of Jewish wisdom and values.
