Sunday November 11, 2012:  Boney Mountain Overlook 

 

RATING: Intermediate Plus / Advanced   TRAILHEAD TIME: 9:00 A.M.

 

DESCRIPTION:

Andrea Friedman and David Moezinia will co-lead this hike of about 7.5 miles round trip with 2100 feet elevation gain.  It includes some breathtaking up-close views of the shear rock faces of Boney Mountain.  At a stunning overlook of Boney Mountain, you will see a bench-like rock on the trail with an unforgettable view of the rock faces, as well as views of the Oxnard Plain and Thousand Oaks.  The last section of trail is very steep and it is not maintained.  Poles would be very useful for the way down, but not a must.

 

WHAT TO BRING:Two liters of water, lunch, snacks, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, hiking boots or shoes with good traction, daypack, hiking poles/sticks, shorts and a T-shirt or long pants and long sleeved shirt, depending on weather.  Clothes should be loose fitting, and light-colors are preferable

FOOTWEAR:  Hiking boots or shoes with good traction. Absolutely no sandals or open toed shoes.

WESTSIDE CARPOOL 2 : Federal building  8:00 A.M. Leaving 8:05 A.M.

Wilshire blvd & Veteran ave.  Park off Veteran ave. in Federal Building parking lot behind the Federal Building.  Form your own carpools as there will be no JOA representative there and please share the cost of transportation and parking, if any, with the driver.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE WESTSIDE:

Fwy 10 W to fwy 405 N, 9.5 miles to Fwy 101 N, 26.5 miles to Lynn Rd (exit 45).  Left (south/west) onto Lynn Rd, 4 miles to Wendy Dr, left 0.5 mile to dead end at Potrero Rd.  Park on Wendy Drive or pull in parking on Potrero on the dirt.

Meet in Sherman Oaks at the corner of Riverside Dr and Hazeltine Ave (between Woodman and Van Nuys Blvd). Meet on Riverside Drive on the south side at the entrance to the Sunkist parking lot, across from Trader Joes. CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE!!!! 

Please allow plenty of time flexibility when participating in our hikes / activities!
 

If you are unsure of your fitness level please join us on one of our easier hikes before doing any advanced hikes. We would recommend that you can walk at least 6 miles before coming on any of our hikes.

It is not appropriate to RSVP for an event and not show up. Members can be terminated for repeated offenses.

 

Please read the description of the event carefully before attending.

 

I am a volunteer (i.e. not liable for the group). Safety is a priority for everyone in the group. Think of this as hiking with a group of friends.

 

DISCLAIMER:   Outdoor sports and other events we plan are inherently dangerous and requires significant physical exertion.  Participants must be good health free from heart and respitory problems and be in good physical shape.  Accidents may happen and you understand that on these outings, there may not be search and rescue, medical facilities or expertise necessary to deal with medical or other emergencies to which you and your dependent may be exposed.. By participating in any posted event, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Jewish Outdoor Adventures and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.

The Outings may include carpooling, transportation, or transit to and from the Outings, and you are  personally responsible for all risks associated with this travel.

 

RESPONSIBILITY:I am not responsible for you. You are responsible for you and your minors. You should be self-sufficient and be able to find your way to safety in the event you find yourself on your own. I will not lead you back to the trailhead if you decide to turn back.

ASSUMPTION OF RISKS:You, for Yourself and for the minor participant, if any, ACKNOWLEDGE AND ASSUME the risks of the activity in which your or your child will be participating, whether or not those risks are described above and whether they are inherent or otherwise.

 

RELEASE OF LIABILITY: All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. If you choose to participate in any The JOA events, you are releasing the Jewish Outdoor Adventures  and it’s organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries, death including loss of or damage to property.
