Israel Air Force Commander Eliezer Shkedi, Shabbat Scholar in Residence August 15

Major General (ret.) Eliezer Shkedi was Commander in Chief of the Israel Air Force from 2004 to 2008. His distinguished military career began when he joined the IDF in 1975, and volunteered for the Flight Academy, graduating as a fighter pilot. Shkedi went on to shoot down two enemy aircraft during the 1982 Lebanon War, and quickly rose through the ranks in the IAF, notably, to Commander of Ramat David Air Force Base in 1998, Head of Air Directorate in 2000, and IAF Chief of Staff in 2002.

After retiring from military service in 2008, Maj. Gen. Shkedi went on to serve as CEO of El Al, where he increased the airline’s fleet by 20%, increased club membership, reduced security costs, and oversaw the launch of a low-cost carrier called Up. Maj. Gen. Shkedi holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Ben Gurion University, and an M.A. in Systems Management from the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.
