RATING:  Easy                            TRAILHEAD TIME: 10:00 A.M.

 

 

DESCRIPTION:

We will hike under 5 miles roundtrip with 600 feet elevation gain/loss on the Backbone Trail from Kanan Dume road to Latigo Canyon with beautiful scenery. 

 

 

WHAT TO BRING: 
Two liters of water, lunch, snacks, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, hiking boots or shoes with good traction, daypack, hiking poles/sticks, shorts and a T-shirt or long pants and long sleeved shirt, depending on weather.  Clothes should be loose fitting, and light-colors are preferable

 

 

FOOTWEAR:  Hiking boots or shoes with good traction. Absolutely no sandals or open toed shoes.

WEST SIDE Carpool #1:  Pico Blvd & Robertson:: 9:00 A.M.   Leaving 9:05 A.M.

Meet at the municipal parking lot on the south side of  Pico Blvd west of Robertson blvd between Robertson blvd and Livona ave next to B Nai David Congregation 8906 Pico Blvd L.A. 90035. Form your own carpool and please share the cost of transportation / gas and parking, if any with the driver.

DIRECTIONS FROM WESTSIDE TO THE TRAILHEAD:

Take PCH (CA-1) N 14.7 miles past Sunset to Kanan Dume Road where you will make a right and proceed 4.4 miles.  The Backbone Trailhead Parking lot will be on your left.  The trailhead address is:  1689 Kanan Dume Rd, Malibu, CA 90265

Meet in Sherman Oaks at the corner of Riverside Dr and Hazeltine Ave (between Woodman and Van Nuys Blvd).  Meet on Riverside Avenue on the south side, across from Trader Joes and Stansbury avenue at the driveway entrance to the Sunkist building located at: 14130 Riverside Dr, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423.  Please do not park in the Trader Joes parking lot as you may get towed!!!  Form your own carpools and share the cost of transportation / gas and parking, if any, with the driver.

Take Fwy 101 N to the Kanan Rd exit which is 9.4 miles from Topanga Canyon..  Drive south on Kanan Rd approximately 8 miles where you will find the Backbone Trailhead Parking Lot on your right.  Please note that Kanan Road becomes Kanan Dumes Road south of Mulholland Highway.

CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE!!!! 

Please allow plenty of time flexibility when participating in our hikes / activities!

If you are unsure of your fitness level please join us on one of our easier hikes before doing any advanced hikes. We would recommend that you can walk at least 6 miles before coming on any of our hikes.

It is not appropriate to RSVP for an event and not show up. Members can be terminated for repeated offenses.
