Leora Raikin

In honor of Yom HaAtzma’ut, Israeli Independence Day, Temple Etz Chaim and Temple Adat Elohim invite the community to explore the lives of South Africans and Israelis with a lecture a presentation by Leora Raikin. “From South Africa to Israel: A Jewish View on Apartheid and why the BDS Movement is Wrong,” will be presented on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:30 pm in the Paskow Sanctuary, Temple Etz Chaim, 1080 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks, 91360.

Leora Raikin will speak on her personal experiences as a Jew in South Africa as well as her time in Israel and just how different these two countries really are. This interactive presentation will focus on how the BDS movement (boycott, divest, and sanctions) relies on inaccurate information and falsehoods to unjustly target Israel. Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, is celebrated every year in May to mark the founding of the modern State of Israel in 1948. Founded as a homeland for Jews in the wake of the atrocities of the Holocaust, Israel is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious state that is the only democracy in the Middle East.

For further information about Yom HaAtzma’ut, please visit templeetzchaim.org or contact the Temple office at 805.497.6891, or info@templeetzchaim.org.
