Guest Speaker
Dr. Jess Carbino
When it comes to what people want from online connections, Dr. Jess Carbino really knows her stuff. Dr. Jess, as she is affectionately known, is Sociologist at Tinder where she uses her research on dating to influence the online meeting-and-mating industry. In her role, she leads consumer and market research, conducts focus groups and interviews, creates and analyzes survey data, and studies Tinder user data.
Her work has been featured in major news outlets, some of which include The New York Times and Time Magazine, and she has appeared on TV programs Good Morning America on ABC and The Doctors on CBS, among others. She produced and hosted a weekly UCLA Radio show called “Hook up With Dr. Jess.”
Referred to by LA Weekly as “The Dr. Ruth of the Swipe Right Generation” and most recently named by Fast Company as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2017, Jess is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated from Emory University with High Honors. Following Emory, she worked on Capitol Hill. She then received her PhD in Sociology from UCLA, with her doctoral research broadly focusing on sex, dating (online and off), and relationships — and the cultural and structural influences behind them.
Dr. Jess is currently working on her forthcoming book Meet Market. She is also a proud Lion of Judah.
