Federation Impact Update — November 2022

Antisemitism

The Jewish Federation is committed to keeping our community safe from the rising threat of antisemitism. In response to the unsettling wave of incidents of hate recently dominating the news cycle, alongside our partners at the ADL Los Angeles, we hosted an informative webinar on November 3, Fighting Antisemitism Together. The webinar marshalled human resources to provide actionable information for our community in a way only the Federation can. The panel of experts contributing to the webinar included ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Federation COO and Head of our Community Security Initiative Ivan Wolkind, Temple Israel of Hollywood Senior Rabbi Mari Chernow, along with our partners in law enforcement. The spread of hateful speech is a growing challenge for all of us. Our forceful and immediate response to stand up to this scourge proves that the Federation is committed to remaining a beacon of truth and security in these fraught times.

Mayoral Forum

The Sanders boardroom at Federation headquarters has been a hub of impactful activity lately, as the Federation hosted a Mayoral Candidate Forum on October 26. Karen Bass and Rick Caruso spoke on a range of vital issues including the recent rise in antisemitism and hate speech, representation and governance, keeping our community safe, and homelessness. The Federation ensured that the candidates addressed our community’s most pressing concerns. We made certain that our interests will be prioritized in either candidate’s administration.

TOUR DE SUMMER CAMPS

Jewish summer camp. On October 30, this spectacular event celebrated its 10th anniversary. It was a day filled with food, friends, and a feeling of community. We know that attending Jewish summer camp is essential to giving young people a strong Jewish identity that lasts a lifetime. Tour de Summer Camps raises money for needs-based scholarships and grants that allow thousands of families who otherwise couldn’t afford the cost to send their children to Jewish summer camp. This year’s event brought in over $1 million, demonstrating that our Federation continues to secure a vibrant Jewish future.
