Film: I Shall Not Be Silent

“I Shall Not Be Silent” highlights the inspiring story of Joachim Prinz who was born to a Jewish family in Silesia, Prussia, in 1902. By 1917, he joined Blau Weiss (Blue White), the Zionist youth movement. He received a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau, Germany. As his prominence grew in Germany and his fears of Hitler’s reign were coming true, he earned the sponsorship of Rabbi Stephen Wise, a close adviser to President Franklin Roosevelt. In 1937, he immigrated to the U.S. & became the spiritual leader of Temple B’Nai Abraham in New Jersey. Prinz became a fund raiser & close ally of the founding leaders of Israel. He devoted much of his life in the U.S. to the plight of African Americans & the Civil Rights Movement. During the 1963 March on Washington, he came to the podium after gospel singer Mahalia Jackson & before Martin Luther King’s “I have a Dream” speech. You will not forget this moving story about Jews, Israel, and civil rights in America.

Discussion with Rabbi Michael Gotlieb to follow the film. Suggested donation $5.
