The Shofar’s Clarion Call

Beginning Sunday evening, in synagogues across our community and around the world, the shofar will be blown. The distinct, powerful sound of the shofar is a clarion call for all of us, no matter where we pray or how we vote, no matter where we were born or the color of our skin, no matter how old we are or who we love.

This has been a challenging year for many of us. Many of us have lost love ones and have dealt with family, health, or personal issues. Many among us continue to struggle financially.

This has been a year where the issues that divide us have dominated the issues that unite us.

The shofar’s call inspires us to reflect on the past year and look forward to the year ahead.

This year when I hear this clarion call I will reflect on the strength of our community and feel deep gratitude for your immeasurable contributions to that strength. I will pray that in the year ahead we will come together as a community to deal with our greatest challenges.

On behalf of our Jewish Federation and the tens of thousands in our community who counted on us this year and will count on us even more in the year ahead, I thank you and wish all good things for you and your family in the new year.

Shabbat Shalom, Shana Tovah and G’mar Tov,

Jay
